Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pulp, paper and wood company CMPC (Santiago, Chile) awaits legal permission from local environmental authorities to proceed with the installation of a paper machine in the tissue mill in the Talagante province of Chile. Permits are expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2010. The total investment cost of the project is estimated at about $80 million.
The project seeks to increase the plant's manufacturing capacity through the addition of a new paper machine, which can produce up to 54,000 tons of tissue paper per year. The installation of the machine also requires the expansion of the facility. At present, the Talagante mill is built on a surface of 87,981 square meters. After the project's completion, the plant will have a total developed area of 151,389 square meters. Infrastructure construction is expected to begin in 2011 and is scheduled to last for approximately a year.
Talagante's mill is located in the Chilean metropolitan region. Operations began in 1995, and the facility has a current production capacity of 310,000 tons of tissue paper per year. About 700 people work at the facility.
CMPC produces and commercializes wood, pulp, tissue, papers and paper products. The company has more than 20 operating mills in various Latin American countries, and it exports its products throughout the five continents.
