The 6th annual Electric Power 2004 has gained both notoriety and acclaim in replacing the traditional keynote speaker with a high-powered CEO roundtable discussion that was attended by more than 500 industry attendees.
The well-known Richard Cortright, Jr., (Managing Director, Standard & Poors) moderated the three-hour presentation. Participating CEO's included Mayo Shattuck, III (Chairman, President & CEO, Constellation Energy Group); Peter Cartwright (Chairman & CEO, Calpine Corporation); Robert Catell (Chairman & CEO, KeySpan Corporation); James Rogers, Jr. (Chairman, President & CEO, Cinergy Corporation) and Phil Harris (President & CEO) PJM Interconnection.
Even before the CEO's were introduced, moderator Cortright raised the highly controversial issue of regulation vs. deregulation. As the participants debated and positioned to validate the various pro's and con's of coal and gas production platforms for electricity the issue of both state and federal mandates, reforms and legislation wove its way through the entire discussion.
However, in the end these high profile electric energy managers all agreed that the future is uncertain and that a transition in whatever form is eminent.
On the show floor, the exposition promoter Sean Guerre (President & CEO, The Trade Fair Group) was busy organizing the next event, which is scheduled for April 5-7, 2005 at Chicago's McCormick Place. In all the Trade Fair Group hosts five annual shows that address a variety of energy disciplines including oil, natural gas and nuclear electric power production as well as addressing environmental issues and forecasting trends.
Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated and their webcast property Industrialinfo.com continues to be the dominant media with extensive breaking news coverage originating from their center aisle interactive island display. IIR founder and president Ed Lewis chose this years event to introduce IIR's unique and radically advanced web-based PowerTracker tool that allows energy producers and users to instantaneously monitor, identify and resolve industrial energy disfunctions. "This is a ground-breaking step forward that will allow the energy industry to react to the inevitable fluctuation and failures providing valuable insight for problem resolution applications," says Mr. Lewis.
