Cheniere Energy Advances Corpus Christi LNG Receiving Terminal Toward Construction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Corpus Christi LNG LLC (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy Incorporated (AMEX:LNG) (Houston, Texas) has moved a step closer to making its proposed LNG receiving and re-gasification terminal located in Corpus Christi, Texas, a reality. Corpus Christi LNG has an E+P+C services agreement for the site preparation contract with La Quinta LNG Partners whose general partners are Zachry Construction Corporation (San Antonio, Texas) and AMEC E&C Services Incorporated (Houston, Texas).

Under the terms of the $50 million contract, La Quinta will provide preliminary design, engineering, and site preparation work in connection to the construction of the new LNG receiving terminal. Site work for the LNG facility commenced in May. AMEC and Zachry have already been awarded contracts by Corpus Christi LNG for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the $750 million project. When completed in late 2009 or early 2010, the LNG terminal will have a natural gas send out capacity of 2.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). The terminal was permitted as a single-phase terminal unlike Cheniere’s other terminals, which are dual phase facilities, with proposed output approaching 4 Bcf/d of natural gas send out capacity.

The start of construction on this new LNG receiving and re-gasification terminal brings the total number of new LNG terminals currently in some phase of construction to seven throughout North America. The number of LNG marine LNG terminal projects increases to eight when Trunkline LNG’s (Houston, Texas) Lake Charles Louisiana LNG terminal expansion is included in the picture.
