Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Development and Reform Commission has approved plans for Fujian Province's first pump-storage power station, the State Grid Xin Yuan Company Limited (SG Xinyuan) (Beijing) announced on March 19, 2008.
The station, a key project outlined in the nation's 11th five-year plan (2006-10), will be located in Xiyuan Town of Xianyou County in the eastern Chinese province. It will serve as a load and power source center. The project will be built and operated by the Fujian Xianyou Pump-Storage Company Limited, a SG Xinyuan subsidiary established in December 2007. The project, estimated to cost about $620 million, will comprise an upstream reservoir, a water transmission system, a powerhouse, a downstream reservoir and a switch yard. The station will have four 300-megawatt vertical Francis reversible generating units for a planned annual power output of about 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours and an annual utilization of 1,580 hours. Construction is scheduled to last 66 months.
Based on an earlier report, construction on the access road for the project began on December 15, 2007, and the project's first unit is expected to go into operation in 2011.
