Oxiquim owns two production sites in Chile, and the site selected for this project is located in Concepcion, Bio-Bio, where the company has three production units that process formalin, formaldehyde resins and adhesive mixtures.
The formalin unit produces one of the main raw materials to manufacture resins and adhesives mixtures. This site manufactures two types of resins: phenol-formaldehyde resins, in two different production lines, and urea-formaldehyde resins.
The installed capacity of resins at the Concepcion plant, which originally was 110,000 metric tons per year (metric T/yr), reached 140,000 metric T/yr in 2007 after the last expansion of the three existing units, which demanded a $3.5 million investment. After the current expansion that started back in November 2011, the company expects to increase the present capacity by 15%.
The Chilean firm is a stock company and main subsidiary of Syntex, a parent company that owns and operates various specialty chemical sites with applications in timber, mining, plastics, food and construction, among other markets. When Oxiquim's expansion project is complete, it will help the company consolidate its position as industry leader in chemical manufacturing and related services.
