Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas), a global provider of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, expects to benefit for years to come from some of the fastest-growing sectors in U.S. and Canadian industry, including ethylene production and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Industrial Info is tracking nearly $80 billion in North American projects involving Fluor, more than $29 billion of which is attributed to the 10 highest-valued projects with a medium to high likelihood of beginning construction.

The Chemical Processing Industry accounts for the biggest share of these projects, led by a pair of projects for Sasol Limited's (NYSE:SSL) (Johannesburg, South Africa) Lake Charles Chemical Project (LCCP) in Westlake, Louisiana: a $4 billion ethylene unit, which is designed to produce 1.5 million metric tons per year for the complex's downstream units, and a $3.35 billion pet coke-to-methanol plant, which would process petroleum coke into 1 million metric tons per year of methanol and 400,000 metric tons per year of sulfuric acid. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the ethylene unit, which is under construction and is set to wrap up later this year, and the proposed pet coke-to-methanol plant.

Also on the U.S. Gulf Coast, LyondellBasell Industries NV's (NYSE:LYB) (Houston, Texas) $2.4 billion addition of a propylene oxide/tertiary-butyl alcohol (PO/TBA) unit at a complex in Channelview, Texas, has been under construction since September, with Fluor performing engineering and procurement. The unit is expected to produce 1 billion pounds per year of PO and about 2.2 billion pounds per year of TBA, which will be used to produce 29 million barrels per day (BBL/d) of oxyfuels. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

The Marcellus Shale is fueling ethylene growth farther north, and Fluor is part of a consortium of contractors involved in PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited's (Bangkok, Thailand) proposed, $7.3 billion Belmont County ethylene plant in Shadyside, Ohio. Project justification is being sought for the 1.5 million-metric-ton-per-year facility, which would not kick off until mid-2019 at the earliest. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Canada also is home to chemical-related projects that are using Fluor's services, including Inter Pipeline Limited's (TSX:IPL) (Calgary, Alberta) $1.38 billion Heartland Petrochemical Complex in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and polypropylene production plant, which would be the first of its kind in Canada, was approved by Inter Oil's board in December and began site preparation last month. It will produce 1.1 billion pounds per year of propylene from 22,000 BBL/d of propane. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Canada also is host to two leading projects in the Oil & Gas Industry that include Fluor. Exxon Mobil Corporation's (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) $3 billion topsides addition to the Hebron offshore production platform in the Labrador Sea is under construction and expected to wrap up in the fourth quarter. The platform is expected to produce 150,000 BBL/d of crude oil, with a possible future expansion to 180,000 BBL/d. The full project is led by ExxonMobil and includes Suncor Energy (NYSE:SU) (Calgary, Alberta), Statoil ASA (NYSE:STO) (Stavanger, Norway) and Nalcor Energy (St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador). For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

On the opposite Canadian coast, Fluor is performing construction management services for Woodfibre Natural Gas Limited's (Squamish, British Columbia) $1.3 billion LNG liquefaction plant in Squamish, British Columbia, which follows the U.S. trend of developing LNG for export. The project involves converting a pulp mill into a facility to process 220 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas into 2.1 million tons per year of LNG, for export to Asian countries. Woodfibre expects the project to begin construction later this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

The U.S. South is home to two top-valued projects in the Power Generation Industry that employ Fluor, both natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) power stations that are under construction: Duke Energy Corporation's (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) $1.5 billion Citrus County Power Station in Crystal River, Florida, which will generate 1,640 MW from four combustion turbines and two steam turbines, and Dominion Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) $1.3 billion Greensville County Power Station in Emporia, Virginia, which will generate 1,588 MW from three combustion turbines and a steam turbine. Both projects are set to finish construction late this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports for the Citrus County and Greensville County power stations.

The South has been a top destination for Pharmaceutical & Biotech projects in recent years, including Novo Nordisk Incorporated's (NYSE:NVO) (Bagsvaerd, Denmark) $1.85 billion active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) plant in Clayton, North Carolina, for which Fluor is performing EPC services. The facility is expected to finish construction in 2020 and produce APIs used for insulin. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
