Russian-Occupied Chernobyl Nuclear Site Loses Power
A power line to the Chernobyl nuclear plant site in Ukraine was cut, prompting Ukraine to appeal to Russia for a ceasefire to allow for power-line repairs
Ukrainian transmission system operator Ukrenergo reported the loss of electricity supply to the Chernobyl station, which has been captured by Russian troops.
Ukrainian authorities have warned that the reserve diesel generator will only last 48 hours, after which the cooling of the spent fuel will stop. This could lead to possible release of radiation.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that there was no critical impact on safety in this case. It was reported earlier that the plant is no longer transmitting data.
