Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Engineering and design-build firm AECOM (Los Angeles, California) has a hand in some of the fastest-developing corners of U.S. industry, with its name attached to multiple projects for data centers, cargo transport, pharmaceutical research, among others. Industrial Info is tracking more than $27 billion worth of active and proposed projects across the U.S. featuring AECOM's services, the bulk of which is attributed to public transportation projects.
Click on the image at right for a graph detailing the top 10 parent entities for active and proposed projects across the U.S. featuring AECOM's services, by total investment.
Among the most closely watched sectors in the U.S. is for data centers, which is expected to see exponential growth in the coming years. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates load growth from data centers has tripled over the past decade and is projected to further double or triple by 2028. DataBank, a subsidiary of DigitalBridge Group (Boca Raton, Florida) and a provider of wide-ranging cloud and interconnection services, is at work on nearly $76 billion worth of data center projects worldwide, including its $400 million Campus IAD5 in Culpeper, Virginia.
AECOM is serving as general contractor on the Campus IAD5 project, which is expected to consume 192 megawatts (MW) and take up 1.4 million square feet. The project is one of three new campuses for which DataBank raised $2 billion in equity last year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project and Plant databases can learn more from a detailed project report and plant profile.

Global trade is hearing from a new player in the maritime business: Washington State's Puyallup Tribe, which launched logistics company Puyallup International Incorporated (Tacoma, Washington) in 2023. AECOM is performing engineering services for a $200 million expansion of a marine cargo terminal at the Port of Tacoma, Washington, on a 22-acre site located within Puyallup's tribal boundaries. The Puyallup are partnering with the Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) to construct and operate their new shipping berth, according to Tribal Business News. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report and plant profile.
The Port of Houston Authority is employing AECOM for two other marine port projects: a $30 million reconstruction of container yards 6 and 7 at the Barbours Cut Terminal in La Porte, Texas, and a $20 million expansion of Wharf 7 at the Bayport Terminal in Seabrook, Texas, both of which are located in the sprawling Houston Ship Channel. Both projects will provide much-needed equipment upgrades and are slated to wrap up in the fourth quarter of 2026. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Barbours Cut and Bayport projects.
In the Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry, AECOM is in the final weeks of constructing the $150 million first phase and $60 million second phase of the Alewife Park Life Science Research Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The project is spearheaded by IQHQ Incorporated (Solana Beach, California), which develops real estate for life science companies, and is expected to see a $60 million third phase begin construction before the end of the current quarter. IQHQ says the campus will house research operations for multiple tenants in the industry.
Subscribers can learn more about Alewife Park from a detailed plant profile and project reports for Phase I, Phase II and Phase III.
