Allegheny Energy Supply Company LLC (Monroeville, Pennsylvania) a subsidiary of Allegheny Energy Incorporated (NYSE: AYE) (Hagerstown, Maryland) began commercial operation of the Springdale Units 3, 4 & 5 located in Springdale, Pennsylvania in Allegheny County (Plant 1057326).
Construction for the project (PEC 12002376) began in July of 2001 and was completed during the second week of August 2003. Springdale will consist of two 175-megawatt Siemens Westinghouse W501 FD combustion turbine generators each with Vogt-NEM HRSG's (heat recovery steam generator) attached, and a Siemens Westinghouse axial flow condensing steam turbine generator all of which will operate in a combined-cycle configuration.
Both the owner's engineering and the general construction contract were awarded to Black & Veatch Corporation headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas. Black & Veatch Corporation is a leading global engineering, construction and consulting company specializing in infrastructure development in the fields of energy, water and information.
