Alliant Energy Completes 300-Megawatt Sheboygan Falls Peaking Project

Alliant Energy Generation (AEG) (Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE:LNT)(Madison, Wisconsin), has completed commercial start-up for the $150 million Sheboygan Falls Energy Facility, in Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

AEG managed the construction of the simple-cycle project, which began in August 2004, and owns the plant through Sheboygan Power LLC. Wisconsin Power & Light is leasing the plant from AEG and will operate and maintain the plant.

The 300-megawatt project consists of two simple-cycle 172-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001FA PG7241 (FA) combustion turbine generators that will operate in a peaking capacity at a maximum of 1,795 hours per year. Recently, peaking stations, such as the Sheboygan Energy Center, are experiencing greater than average operating hours, due to the fact that area coal-fired power plants are running at reduced rates, because of coal rail transportation delivery issues.

Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, are the turn-key engineering, procurement, and constructors for the project.

Wood Group Integrated Plant Solutions has been awarded the long-term gas turbine maintenance contract. This is the second advanced 'F' technology gas turbine maintenance contract for Wood Group in the U.S.
