Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). AmerenUE, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE:AEE) (Saint Louis, Missouri) is preparing to begin installation of three natural gas-fired combustion turbines at the Venice Power Plant in Illinois.
The Venice Power Plant began operation in 1942, and between 1947 and 1957 was the largest plant in AmerenUE's system, with a generating capacity of 500MW. A fire seriously damaged two of the plant's units in 2000 and in 2002 the company announced plans to permanently retire 343MW of capacity. At one time, the plant utilized five oil-and gas-fired boilers to drive three 98MW General Electric (GE) and two 40MW Allis-Chalmers steam turbine generator sets. The station still has a natural gas fired Pratt & Whitney FT8 Twin Pac currently in Operation.
