BP Alternative Energy Completes Construction of $120 Million Windfarm in Illinois

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--BP Alternative Energy North America Incorporated (Cincinnati, Ohio) has completed construction and is set to begin full commercial operation of its $120 million, 150-megawatt (MW) Camp Grove windfarm near Camp Grove, Illinois.

Construction began in April 2007, and the project was expected to begin full commercial start-up by the end of December 2007. The project consisted of constructing 100 1.5-MW GE Energy wind turbines along Marshall and Stark counties in Illinois. Appalachian Power Company (Roanoke, Virginia), a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (NYSE:AEP) (Columbus, Ohio), signed a 20-year power-purchase agreement to buy 75 MW of the wind energy generated by the facility. The power-purchase agreement with Camp Grove is part of AEP's plans to add 1,000 MW of new wind energy by 2011 as a component of the company's comprehensive strategy to address its greenhouse gas emissions.

M. A. Mortenson Company, (Minneapolis, Minnesota) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.

EnXco Service Corporation, a subsidiary of enXco Incorporated (North Palm Springs, California), will provide operation and maintenance services after the project commences full commercial start-up.
