LNG
Asia's LNG Imports Soften While Europe's Trend Higher - Asia's imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are estimated at 22.07 million metric tons in July, up from 21.80 million in June, according to data compiled by commodity analysts Kpler. On a per day basis, July's figure is 722,000 tons, which is slightly down from 727,000 in June. In contrast to Asia's declining LNG imports, Europe's have been trending higher, with the first seven months seeing arrivals of 75.61 million tons, up 24% from the 61.13 million for the same period in 2024, according to Kpler data. REFINING
British Refinery to Close After No Buyer Found - Britain's insolvent Lindsey oil refinery will close down after no buyers were found for the site, Energy Minister Michael Shanks said in a statement on Monday. The refinery was placed into the hands of an official receiver after its owner Prax (London, England) fell into insolvency at the end of last month. "After a thorough process to determine whether a sale was possible, no credible offers have been made to purchase the entire refinery, and it will be winding down operations," Shanks said. Lindsey had a capacity of 113,000 barrels per day. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Refining Plant Database can click here for the plant profile. (Reuters)
POWER
Wisconsin Clears Alliant Energy Storage Project - The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has given the go-ahead to a carbon-dioxide (CO2) battery energy storage project led by utility Alliant Energy Corporation (Madison Wisconsin). The Columbia Energy Storage Project, touted as the first of its kind long-duration energy storage system in the U.S., will use technology from Energy Dome (Milan, Italy). The long-duration energy storage company signed a contract for the delivery of a 20-megawatt CO2 battery in October. The system works by using electricity from the grid to compress CO2 gas into a liquid for storage. When power is needed, the liquid CO2 is turned back into gas to drive a turbine and generate electricity.
