Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Imerys Incorporated (Roswell, Georgia) plans to consolidate its three production plants located in Sylacauga, Alabama to increase calcium carbonate production capacity and efficiency (Plant 1006911). Some work has begun on the consolidation of the plants, but the bulk of the move will be performed late next year, when they plan to relocate large pieces of production equipment and buildings. The whole project will take an estimated two years to complete and will cost approximately $10 million (PEC 04002627). Imerys will complete the necessary engineering themselves and hire local contractors to perform the construction trades and cartage.
Imerys' worldwide headquarters are located in Paris, France and they specialize in the mining and processing of calcium carbonate and kaolin clays to support the paper, paint, rubber, textile and other industries. Ground calcium carbonate (GCC) and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) provide the white pigments, which are essential to the paper industry. They not only enhance the paper's glossy and bright finished appearance, but also lower production costs. Their pigments are provided to over 400 paper mill sites located in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific markets.
