Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN) (San Jose, California) has begun commercial operation of a 540 megawatt (MW) plant in Louisiana

Carville Energy Center LLC (Carville, Louisiana) a totally owned subsidiary of Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN) (San Jose, California) has begun commercial operation of the 540 megawatt (MW) Carville Energy Center located in Carville, Louisiana in Iberville County.
The Carville Energy Center will consists of two natural gas-fired 170 MW GE Power Systems Frame 7FA's combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and a 200 MW Alstom Power Incorporated steam turbine, all of which will operate in a combine-cycle configuration. The power generated from the new plant will help Calpine meet the needs of the growing County of Iberville.

Gilbert Southern Corporation is also a unit of Peter Kiewit Sons', incorporated (based in Omaha, Nebraska).
