Calpine Begins Commercial Operation of Power Plant in Louisiana

Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN) (San Jose, California) has begun commercial operation of a 540 megawatt (MW) plant in Louisiana

Carville Energy Center LLC (Carville, Louisiana) a totally owned subsidiary of Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN) (San Jose, California) has begun commercial operation of the 540 megawatt (MW) Carville Energy Center located in Carville, Louisiana in Iberville County.

The Carville Energy Center will consists of two natural gas-fired 170 MW GE Power Systems Frame 7FA's combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and a 200 MW Alstom Power Incorporated steam turbine, all of which will operate in a combine-cycle configuration. The power generated from the new plant will help Calpine meet the needs of the growing County of Iberville.

Bibb and Associates is a multidisciplinary engineering and architecture firm uniquely positioned to provide the highest level of quality and integrity of service in the power, architecture, process and industrial industries.

The general construction contract was awarded to Gilbert Southern Corporation headquartered in Peachtree City, Georgia. Gilbert Southern, is one of the leading heavy construction contractors in the southern United States with experience in nearly every field of construction, from power plants and building, to roads, bridges, tunnels, dams and pipelines. Gilbert Southern Corporation is also a unit of Peter Kiewit Sons', incorporated (based in Omaha, Nebraska).
