Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) recently organized the examination meeting for the pre-feasibility study report of Cangnan Nuclear Power Project in Wenzhou City of East China's Zhejiang province. Leaders and representatives from the Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (EPPEI) (Beijing) and various government departments of Zhejiang attended the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, the expert panel visited the two proposed sites for the Cangnan Nuclear Power Project in Dayu Town and Xiaguan Town in Cangnan County. During the meeting, the expert panel listened to the presentation made by East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai), which performed the preliminary study, discussed the pre-feasibility study report for CGNPC's Cangnan Nuclear Power Project in specialty teams, and reached the conclusion and comments for the project.

Cangnan has long planned for the construction of a nuclear power plant, and has reached initial intent with several nuclear power developers, including China Datang Corporation (Beijing), China Huaneng Group (Beijing) and CGNPC. Upon the examination carried out by the experts, two alternative sites in Dayu and Xiaguan were proposed for pre-stage preparation.

The panel believes that both proposed sites are satisfactory for the construction of a nuclear power plant with six 1,000 megawatt (MW) units. According to the preliminary feasibility study report, two 1,000-MW pressurized water reactor-based generating units will be built in Phase I. However, the final capacity and type of reactor are subject to the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Last October, a similar examination meeting was held under the organization of Huaneng Nuclear Power Development Company Limited (Beijing), a specialized subsidiary of China Huaneng Group, where three alternative sites at Peilei (Xiaocao) of Xiaguan Town, and Yuanyuwei and Damenshan at Chixi County were proposed, with an estimated total investment of about $12 billion.

To promote the pre-stage preparation of the project, the local government has listed the project as key for pre-stage preparation. Following the further progress in the pre-stage preparation, the project is expected to be listed in the nation's nuclear power development plan shortly.
