Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following the approval of the Datang Liaoyuan Thermal Power Plant expansion project early this month, Datang Changchun No.3 Thermal Power Plant's 600-megawatt (MW) construction project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on June 20, 2008, China Datang Corporation (Beijing) announced June 25.

According to the approval of the NDRC, the new construction will consist of two 300-MW subcritical coal-fired cogeneration units together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices, as well as the associated heat supply pipeline. Total investment in the project will be about $417 million, which will be fully invested by Datang Jilin Power Generation Company Limited (Changchun), a regional subsidiary of China Datang Corporation. Upon completion, the project will have a heating area of 11.2 million square meters and the capacity to provide 112 tons per hour of industrial steam to adjacent areas, including an automobile-manufacturing plant. The plant's annual coal consumption will be about 1.76 million tons, which will be supplied by Jilin Yingcheng Mining Company Limited and Heilongjiang Longmei Mining Group Company Limited.

Datang Changchun No.3 Thermal Power Plant is located in the Economic and Technology Development Zone of Changchun, the capital city of northeastern China's Jilin province and is a major heat and power source for the region. In January 2005, China Datang Corporation signed a letter of intent regarding the construction of the power plant, proposing that the power plant have a total planned capacity of 1200 MW, to be built in 2 phases. Construction preparation of the project was officially started in April 2007. Construction of the project will play an important function in optimizing the power source structure and on improving the urban heat-supply capacity as well as the rate of energy use in Changchun city.
