Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Following the successful hand over of the #3 ultra supercritical coal-fired unit of Xuchang Yulong Power Generation Company Limited (XYPGC) (Xuchang, Henan), a subsidiary of China Datang Corporation (Beijing) in Central China's Hebei Province, for commercial operation after the completion of the 168-hour trial operation on June 27, 2009, the installed power generation capacity of China Datang surpassed 90 gigawatts (GW) to 90.06 GW. This represents 3.78 times of the company's installed capacity when it was established in 2002.
On June 29, 2009, China Datang Corporation held a ceremony in celebrating this outstanding event in Yuzhou City, Henan Province. DI Ruoyu, General Manager of China Datang Corporation, and ZHANG Dawei, Vice Governor of Henan Province, together with other leaders from the local government, attended the ceremony.
The newly commissioned #3 unit is one of the two 660-megawatt units planned in the Phase II Expansion Project of XYPGC jointly invested by China Datang Corporation (60%), Henan Provincial Investment Corporation (30%) (Zhengzhou, China), Xuchang Municipal Investment Corporation (5%) (Xuchang, Henan) and Yuzhou Construction Investment Company Limited (5%) (Yuzhou, Henan).
As reported, China Datang has established a growth plan with optimal structure, lower consumption, low emission and rapid speed since its establishment in 2002. In addition to the rapid development, China Datang has worked on the optimization of its power source and unit structure. As of the end of June 2009, the proportion of clean and renewable energy rose to 18.03% of its total installed capacity, of which, installed capacity of hydropower rose from 2.71 GW to 13.89 GW, and the installed capacity of wind power reached 2.35 GW.
So far, the number of high efficient and environmental coal-fired units with single capacity over 600-megawatts increased from 2 to 53, accounting for 43.48% of its total installed capacity of thermal power. During this period, 112 inefficient, small thermal power units with combined capacity of 6.41 GW have been terminated, accounting for 159.8% of the total planned volume in the "eleventh five-year plan". China Datang currently possesses power generating assets in 28 provinces (regions) around China, including Saihanba Windfarm (0.67 GW), the largest windfarm operated in the world, Tuoketuo Power Plant (5.4 GW), the largest coal-fired power plant in China and Longtan Hydropower Station (4.9 GW), the second largest hydropower plant operated in China.
