Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Phase I of the 1,200-megawatt (MW) Guodian Xingyang Power Plant project, the largest power project planned in Zhengzhou, received official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on December 8, 2008, Guodian Xingyang Coal & Power Company Limited (GXCPC) (Zhengzhou, Henan), a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing), announced on December 12, 2008.
According to the approval of the NDRC, two 600-MW supercritical coal-fired units with a flue-gas desulfurization device will be built in Phase I to replace several smaller units with two larger units.
Guodian Xingyang Power Plant, located at Xingyang City, is not only one of the large coal and power integrated power projects planned by China Guodian Corporation across the country, but also the only large supercritical project adjacent to Zhengzhou, the largest load center and the capital city of central China's Henan Province. The project has a total planned capacity of more than 3,600 MW and more than 12 million metric tons of output in its associated coalmines. GXCPC, a company jointly invested in by China Guodian Corporation (60%), Hebi Coal Industry (Group) Company Limited (Hebi, Henan) (20%) and Zhengzhou Baoxiang Power Installation Company Limited (Zhengzhou, Henan) (20%) in April 2006, is responsible for the construction as well as the future operation of the project.
As a key energy project in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) of Henan province, the project received approval from the NDRC to start pre-stage preparation early in November 2007. "Official approval of the project marks that the project development has entered into a new stage," said GXCPC in its announcement.
According to the schedule, both units in Phase I will begin operation in 2010. Upon completion, the project will play an important function in improving the power-supply capacity in Zhengzhou region, adjusting the power source structure as well as the operation reliability and economic performance in the Henan grid.
