China Guodian's 2,600-Megawatt Dagangshan Hydropower Station Receives Approval

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The project application report for China Guodian Corporation's (Beijing) 2,600-megawatt (MW) Dagangshan Hydropower Station received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on December 5, 2010, according to an announcement from GD Power Development Company Limited (Beijing) (SH:600795), the listed flagship of China Guodian Corporation, on December 13.

Dagangshan Hydropower Station, which is in Shimian County of Yaan City, is the 14th project in the 22-cascade development scheme proposed for the mainstream of the Dadu River, a main tributary of the Yangtze River in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The power station is mainly comprised of a 210-meter-high, double-curvature concrete dam; a spillway; an underground powerhouse; and the associated switchyard. The powerhouse will be furnished with four Francis hydraulic-turbine generating units, each of 650 MW. Upon completion, the power station will have a reservoir with total storage capacity of 777 million cubic meters, and will be capable of producing 11.43 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. Total investment in the project will be about $2.6 billion.

Dadu Hydropower Development Company Limited (DHDC) (Chengdu, Sichuan), a subsidiary of GD Power, is responsible for the construction and operation of the project. Pre-stage preparation for the project kicked off in 2005.

With the approval of the project application report, it means the project is ready to begin construction on the main works shortly. According to the schedule, first unit of the project will begin operations in 2015, and the entire project will be completed in 2016.

As the major hydropower developing vehicle of China Guodian Corporation, DHDC currently has a total installed capacity of 5,260 MW. In addition, DHDC also has two hydropower projects under construction and another 11 under pre-stage preparations.
