China Huadian Subsidiary to Develop 1,000 Megawatts of Wind Power in Zhangjiakou City

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Huadian New Energy Development Company Limited (Beijing) and the government of Zhangjiakou City have signed an agreement for the development of 1,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power in Zhangjiakou. According to the agreement, China Huadian New Energy will invest about $1.45 billion.

Zhangjiakou is considered to be a good location to harness wind energy, which is currently estimated at more than 12,000 MW. In 2007, the Bashang region of Zhangjiakou became the first 1,000-MW wind power base in China. So far, all nine windfarms planned at the base are under construction. It is expected that the city's total installed capacity of wind power will reach 1,000 MW by year's end and 3,000 MW in 2010.

China Huadian New Energy is a fully owned subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), one of the top five nationwide power producers in China, established in September 2007 to increase the development in new energy. The company's objective this year is to install 300 MW of wind power capacity, begin six wind power projects with a total planned capacity of 554.8 MW and receive approval for another six projects with a total planned capacity of 404.3 MW.
