Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Yunnan Huadian Ludila Hydropower Company Limited's (Kunming, Yunnan) Ludila Hydropower Station on the Jinshan River passed an examination by the State Council on January 11, 2012. The project has received its final approval from the state, China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) announced on January 13, 2012.
The Ludila Hydropower Station, which is at the boundary between Yongsheng County of Lijiang City and Binchuan County of Dali City on the middle reaches of the Jinsha River, is the seventh step of the eight-step cascade development scheme for the middle reaches of the river. According to the approval, the main purpose of the project will be power generation, together with other diversified benefits in water and soil conservation, navigation and tourism. The project will be built with a 140-meter high rolling compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam to form a reservoir with a total capacity of 1.72 billion cubic meters to support one right bank underground powerhouse furnished with six 360-megawatt (MW), Francis-type hydraulic turbine generating units. Total installed capacity for the project will be 2,160 MW. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate about 1 billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy to the grid every year.
River diversion for the project was achieved in January 2009, with the construction of main works kicking off in May 2009 without receiving approval. Construction was then ordered to stop by the Ministry of Environmental Protection in June 2009. So far, the project owner is working with the project designer, HydroChina Xibei Engineering Corporation (Xi'an, Shaanxi); the main equipment supplier, Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (Chengdu, Sichuan); and major construction and erection contractors, including Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 14 for the powerhouse bid, the consortium of Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 16 and Bureau 8 for the dam bid, and Nari Group (Nanjing, Jiangsu) for the computer control system, exciters, and construction of the project.
With the receiving of final approval from the State, construction of the project will be fully accelerated. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operation in 2012 and the entire project will be completed by the end of 2015.
