Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)-- All five units of China Huaneng Group's (Beijing) 1,800-megawatt (MW) Longkaikou Hydropower Station have begun operations, according to China Gezhouba Group Corporation (Yichang, Hubei), the erection contractor for the project.
Unit 3 began operations on January 26, 2014, according to the contractor. The other four units were commissioned in 2013.
The Longkaikou Hydropower Station, located at the boundary between Dali City and Lijiang City, in southwest China's Yunnan province, is the sixth project in the hydropower development scheme for a single reservoir with eight cascade power stations. The project is planned on the middle reaches of the Jinsha River, and it mainly comprises a 119-meter-(390-foot) high, roll-compacted concrete gravity dam; a spillway integrated with the dam; and a river bed-type powerhouse. The powerhouse is furnished with five hydraulic turbine generating units, each with a capacity of 360 megawatts (MW), for a total installed capacity of 1,800 MW and an annual average output of about 7.8 billion kilowatt-hours.
As a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing), Huaneng Longkaikou Hydropower Company Limited (HLHC) (Kunming, Yunnan) is responsible for the development, as well as future operation, of the project. HydroChina Huadong Engineering Corporation (Shanghai) is responsible for the design and engineering on the project. Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 8 (Changsha, Hunan) is the main construction contractor of the project. China Gezhouba Group Mechanical and Electrical Company Limited (Chengdu, Sichuan) is responsible for the erection and commissioning of all five units of the project.
