Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Northwest No.1 Power Construction Engineering Company (NPCEC1) (Weinan, Shaanxi) completed the construction of the steam turbine for Unit 1 of Baotou Aluminum Company's (Baotou, Inner Mongolia) 660-megawatt (MW) cogeneration project on January 16, according to NPCEC1, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing). This follows the completion of a boiler water test on December 19.
The steam turbine erection began on January 15, and was completed after 20 hours of continuous work. The turbine was manufactured and supplied by Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan).
The Baotou Aluminum cogeneration power project is located in the southeast of the Baotou National Ecological (Aluminum) Industrial Demonstrative Park in Baotou City, which is about 2 kilometers from the Yellow River in northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. As a self-service plant, the project is furnished with two subcritical, coal-fired, cyclic fluidized bed (CFB) boilers, together with two 330-MW, coal-fired, air-cooling, extraction-condensing steam turbine generating units. The total investment from Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Beijing) is about $430 million.
The National Energy Administration gave preliminary approval to the project at the start of 2012. Construction began in April 2012.
Following the completion of the steam turbine construction, the unit will be ready to start up shortly. According to the schedule, both units of the project are expected to begin operations in 2014.
