Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony for the engineering contract between Central Southern China Electric Power Design Institute (CSEPDI) (Wuhan, Hubei), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), and China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC) (Beijing), for the 600-megawatt (MW) Morupule B coal-fired power plant in Botswana was held in Wuhan, the capital city of central China's Hubei province on May 11, 2009.
Qiuye Xie, President of CSEPDI and Ruolin Zhao, President of the CNEEC, attended the signing ceremony and signed the contract on behalf of the parties. During the signing ceremony, both parties said that the signing of the contract will further consolidate their partnership and enhance close cooperation in implementing this and other projects.
The Morupule B Power Plant is a pithead power plant jointly funded by the owner of coal mines in Botswana and the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) (Gaborone), the national power company of Botswana. The project has a total planned capacity of 1,200 MW. In the current stage, four 150-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired units with direct air-cooling will be built.
CNEEC won the project and signed the general contract with BPC at the headquarters of BPC. The total amount of the contract reached $970 million. The project is the first power project and also the largest general contract project contracted by Chinese enterprises in Botswana to date.
CNEEC is a company engaged in general contracting and the supply of mechanical and electric equipment with extensive business operations in the areas of science, engineering and trade.
CSEPDI is a leading institute of power engineering in China. Up to now, CSEPDI has signed contracts for more than 20 overseas projects this year.
