Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Founded in 1984, Clayco Construction (Chicago, Illinois) has become one the leading private construction firms in the U.S. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7.9 billion in active U.S. projects involving the company. With more than $7.2 billion worth of projects, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads Clayco's project activity in terms of overall value.

Among Clayco's top projects are those involving lithium-ion batteries and their components. Set to kick off this summer is the construction of a plant at SK On Company Limited's (Commerce, Georgia) complex in Commerce, Georgia. The Plant 3 project entails constructing a 430,000-square-foot, 11.7-gigawatt-hour (GWh) manufacturing facility to meet increased battery demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Clayco is acting as general contractor. The project is expected to take about a year to complete. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for the full report.

Also set to begin this summer is construction of an EV battery plant for Envision AESC (Shanghai, China) in Florence, South Carolina. The 1.5 million-square-foot plant will be able to manufacture 30 GWh per year of batteries that will be used in BMW's (Munich, Germany) assembly plant in Greer, South Carolina. Clayco is expected to complete the plant by the end of 2024. Subscribers can click here for more details.

One of the largest projects on Clayco's books is not for lithium-ion batteries, but for the separators that keep the batteries apart in EVs and battery energy storage systems used in the power sector. Clayco is performing design-build services for ENTEK International LLC (Lebanon, Oregon) on a 340-acre site in Terre Haute, Indiana. The project entails constructing four buildings totaling 1.4 million square feet with two production lines aimed at meeting growing demand for the separators. According to a company website, the project is the first phase of ENTEK's expansion to produce about 1.4 billion square meters of ceramic-coated lithium separators across its operations. Construction is planned to kick off toward the end of this year and take about two years to complete. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

In the early planning stages is the addition of more production lines at the ENTEK facility, after the initial grassroot construction is complete. This would add a further 1.8 billion square meters per year of battery separators, for a total production capacity of 3.2 billion square meters per year, which is enough separators for about 3.5 million EVs. Clayco also is at work on several data center projects, chief of which is the multibillion-dollar phase II and III expansions of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation's (Tokyo, Japan) complex in Mesa, Arizona. Phase II, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, involves constructing a 235,500-square-foot data center building, while Phase III entails constructing a two-story, 165,000-square-foot building and is expected to wrap up in early 2024. The facility eventually will include seven data center buildings totaling 1.5 million square feet and will have a dedicated on-site substation. Subscribers can click here for related reports.

Clayco also is providing its services for the construction of several warehousing and distribution facilities. In Canton, Ohio, at the site of the former Skyland Pines Golf Course, Clayco is constructing a fulfillment center for Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington). The project included tearing down a former banquet hall and constructing a 1 million+-square-foot building featuring 36,000 square feet of office space and 96 loading ramps. Construction is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

Running in a distant second place for Clayco's activity by project value is the Food & Beverage Industry. Among these projects is a grassroot whisky distillery for Pernod Ricard SA (Paris, France) in Lebanon, Kentucky. The facility is aiming for annual production of 142,000 barrels per year. In addition to the distillery, it will include a drying operation, three warehouses and visitor center. According to a state website, the facility will be fully carbon-neutral and have zero fossil fuel consumption to produce bourbon. The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.
