Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Consolidated Tin Mines Limited (ASX:CSD) (Cairns, Australia) is on schedule to complete the pre-feasibility studies on a major tin project in September 2013. The project is located near the small township of Mount Garnet, approximately 180 kilometres from the North Queensland city of Cairns, Australia.
The Mount Garnet project was acquired in early 2013 from Kagara Mining Limited, which is now in administration. The acquisition was completed through Snow Peak Mining (SPM), a subsidiary of Snow Peak International Investments (SPII) (Hong Kong, China). Snow Peak is a major shareholder in Northern Australian Consolidated Tin; upon completion of all feasibility studies, Consolidated Tin will manage and operate the mining and processing activities on behalf of Snow Peak.
The acquisition is part of a strategic move by Consolidated Tin to significantly reduce the capital costs that were initially factored into the preliminary scoping studies. The initial plans were for Consolidated Tin to build a grassroot processing plant; however, the recent acquisition of the pre-existing infrastructure allows the company to utilize Kagara's existing processing facility, as well as complete any required alterations to accommodate any additional specifications for tin processing. The project is also within close proximity to road, water and power services, which can significantly expand a project's capital investment value.
The company plans to begin production by mid-2014. At this stage, the company has calculated annual production from a roughly 10 million-tonne resource deposit. The statistical framework is based on production of 1 million tonnes of tin ore per annum to be processed, which will produce 5,000 tonnes of concentrated tin.
The now-flagship operation of Consolidated Tin has progressed from a scoping study, which was completed in mid-2010.
