Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction has begun on the 1,000-megawatt (MW) Phase IV expansion of the Tongling Power Plant in central China's Anhui province. The project is the first 1,000-MW-level project in China to be based on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), as well as the first 1,000-MW unit in Anhui, Anhui Wenergy Company Limited (SHE:000543) (Hefei) said.
The expansion is a key project listed in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan of Anhui province. It will be built and operated by Tongling Wenergy Power Generation Company Limited (Tongling, Anhui), a joint venture of Anhui Wenergy (68.5%), Shenzhen Energy Group Company Limited (SHE:000027) (Guangdong) (26.2%), Shenzhen Nanshan Power Company Limited (SHE:000037) (Guangdong) (3.8%) and the Tongling Municipal Construction Investment Corporation (Anhui) (1.5%).
In June, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). According to the NDRC, the project will have one 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired unit with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices as a way of replacing several smaller units. The total investment of the project will be about $608 million.
In July, an EPC contract was awarded to a consortium formed by China Power Construction Engineering Corporation (Beijing) and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xi'an). Construction is expected to last 26 months.
The Tongling Power Plant is located in the Henggang Industry Park southwest of Tongling city in central China's Anhui province. The power plant was built in 1951 and currently has an installed capacity of 550 MW, including two 125-MW units owned by Anhui Wenergy and one 300-MW unit owned by Shenzhen Energy Group.
