Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The construction kick-off ceremony for China Datang Corporation's (Beijing) Hushan coal-fired project was held in Huaibei City, in central China's Anhui province, on August 18, 2010. According to the approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in July this year, two 660-megawatt (MW) supercritical, coal-fired units will be built on the new site to replace the smaller units 5 and 6, which are 220 MW each and were commissioned for the existing Huaibei power plant in 1981. Total investment in the project will be about $723.5 million. The project is expected to begin operations in 2012.
As a part of its environmental efforts, the project will be furnished with highly efficient electrostatic dust removers, and flue-gas desulfuration, denitration and online-monitoring devices, which could greatly reduce the emission of soot and carbon dioxide. In addition, the project will use urban intermediate water as its production water source, which could reduce the excavation of 12 million metric tons of underground water, compared with conventional, coal-fired power plants in the region.
The Hushan project is in Songtuan Town, Lieshan District of Huaibei City. It is one of the key power source projects listed in the 11th Five-Year Plan of Anhui province, and the first large-scale power source project to be invested by China Datang Corporation in Huaibei City. Datang Huaibei Power Plant, a subsidiary of China Datang Corporation, is responsible for the construction and future operation of the project.
Successful kick off of the Hushan coal-fired project would promote the power source optimization and structural adjustment in China Datang Corporation, and would pave way for the transformation of other old and inefficient small, coal-fired power enterprises, said China Datang Corporation in its announcement.
Attendees at the ceremony included Sun Zhigang, the executive governor of Anhui province; Jin Yaohua, the chief engineer of China Datang Corporation; Zhu Yemu, the vice director of Anhui Development and Reform Commission and the director of Anhui Energy Administration; and other leaders and representatives from the local government and China Datang Corporation Anhui Branch Company (Hefei, Anhui).
