Costco Building New Meat Processing Plant in California; Contractor Identified
The company is looking for more space to expand the existing operations
Released Friday, April 02, 2004
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Costco Wholesale Corporation's (NASDAQ: COST) (Issaquah, Washington) wholesale meats division is currently constructing a new meat processing plant in Tracy, California (Plant 1036221). Situated about 50 miles East of San Francisco, Costco operates a distribution depot that consists of a meat packing plant, a newly completed perishable foods storage depot, and a frozen foods operation to service stores in the region.
The company is looking for more space to expand the existing operations. Currently, Costco is pouring concrete footings and foundations at a vacant property in the complex, preparing for an up to date 169,000 square foot building that will be a new home for the meat processing division.
RMC Incorporated (Fresno, California) has been selected as the general contractor for this estimated $12 million plant and building construction on the project is scheduled to be complete in about six months. Once the building is ready for occupancy, Costco will relocate their meat processing and packing operations from the existing location, as well as add new equipment to the plant to increase processing capacity. The existing building the meat division is currently located in will be converted to dry and non-perishable storage areas, after the first of the year.
Costco Wholesale is a $36 billion dollar international retailer with warehouse club operations in eight countries. They currently operate 412 warehouses, including 304 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 61 in Canada, 15 in the United Kingdom, five in Korea, three in Taiwan, three in Japan and 21 in Mexico.
