Encana Posts Quarterly Loss, Will Accelerate Permian Production - Canadian oil and gas producer Encana Corporation (NYSE:ECA) (Calgary, Alberta) reported a third-quarter net loss of $1.24 billion, compared with a profit of $2.81 billion a year earlier. The company said it will spend an extra $150 million in the Permian Basin than it had originally planned in 2016.
CRUDE OIL
EIA: U.S. Crude Stocks Up for Seventh Week - The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. crude oil reserves were up 4.2 million barrels to 487 million barrels for the week ending November 6, marking the seventh week of increases and approaching the record high level set in April.
REFINING
Houston Abounds with Refinery, Petchem Projects Despite Weakened Economy - A newly released survey indicates the economy in Houston, Texas, has weakened for the 10th month in a row. With its massive array of refineries, terminals and petrochemical plants, the U.S. energy hub has been hard hit by the collapse of oil and gas prices. Still, Houston and the surrounding Harris County are home to 364 active projects being tracked by Industrial Info, with a combined worth of $31.66 billion. Significantly, construction is under way on nearly two-thirds of those projects, with a combined value of $10.4 billion.

Work Starts on Moxie Freedom Power Plant Project in Pennsylvania - Construction of the 1,028-megawatt Moxie Freedom power plant in Pennsylvania recently began. Located in Salem Township, the project is owned by Moxie Energy LLC (Vienna, Virginia) and Caithness Energy LLC (New York, New York). Gemma Power Systems (Glastonbury, Connecticut), a subsidiary of Argan Incorporated (NYSE:AGX) (Rockville, Maryland), is the general contractor and is responsible for hiring subcontractors.
