Dominion Energy's Jasper County Solar Farm Begins Service in South Carolina

The Solvay Solar Energy-Jasper County facility is up and running.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dominion Energy's (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia) new 71.4-megawatt (MW) solar energy farm in Jasper County, South Carolina, has begun service, the company announced last week.

Located near Ridgeland, the Solvay Solar Energy-Jasper County facility came online December 21, Dominion said. The facility has a long-term power-purchase agreement with South Carolina Electric & Gas (NYSE:SCG) (Cayce, South Carolina). Also, renewable energy credits generated by the solar farm will be purchased by chemical producer Solvay S.A.'s (Brussels, Belgium) U.S. arm for 15 years, Dominion said. Solvay has five sites in South Carolina.

Industrial Info has tracked the $130 million Jasper County project since January 2017. Construction kicked off in March last year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Dominion said it brought online 466 MW of solar generating capacity in 2017 in California, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The company said it invested more than $900 million in those projects, which can serve nearly 120,000 homes and businesses.

In addition to the Jasper County project, Industrial Info is tracking four active Dominion solar energy projects with a combined investment value of more than $150 million. This includes a $45 million photovoltaic solar project at the DC Naval Station in Virginia. Construction kicked off in April 2017. The facility will generate 21 MW.
