Fairless Energy LLC (Morrisville, Pennsylvania), a subsidiary of Dominion Resources Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia), has begun full commercial operation for the $800 Million Fairless Works Energy Center located in Morrisville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
The project, begun in 2001, was constructed in two phases. The first phase was completed in March 2004, and the second phase was completed April 2004. Dominion began full commercial operation for the project at the end of June 2004. The project consists of two 2-on-1 combined-cycle power islands, both equipped with two 170-megawatt GE Power Systems MS7001FA PG7241 (FA) combustion turbine generators equipped with dry low-NOx burners, two duct-fired Vogt-NEM heat recovery steam generators, and a single 250-megawatt GE Power Systems condensing D-11 steam turbine generator, all of which is capable of generating a total of 1,180 megawatts of new power for the growing Bucks County. The newly completed plant will also feature state-of-the art air emissions reduction technology, which includes selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the control of NOx emissions.
Chicago, Illinois-based, Sargent & Lundy LLC Incorporated performed the engineering. The Hake Group, headquartered in Eddystone, Pennsylvania, was the general contractor on the project.
