Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boiler in Phase II of the Heshuyuan Power Plant project is the first 300-megawatt (MW) inferior coal-fired CFB boiler without an external heat exchanger developed and manufactured by Dongfang Electric Corporation (HKG:1072) (Deyang, China), one of the top three power-equipment manufacturers in China. The unit has passed the 168-hour full-load trial and was put into commercial operation in southern China's Guangdong province recently. Trial operation of the unit shows that it is performing excellently. The development of this boiler shows that Dongfang Electric Corporation has achieved new breakthroughs in the manufacture of large-scale boilers for clean coal combustion.
Heshuyuan Power Plant has a total planned capacity of 1,470 MW. Two 135-MW units built in Phase I of the project were commissioned in May and September 2005. Two 300-MW CFB units fueled by inferior anthracite with extra low volatile matter will be built in Phase II. The project is being carried out by Guangdong Baolihua Electric Power Company Limited (Meixian, Guangdong) and is the Guangdong province's first large-scale power plant designed for the comprehensive utilization of resources using CFB technology. Construction of Phase II of the project began in November 2006. The second unit in Phase II is expected to begin operation in September of this year. Designs for another two 300-MW CFB units planned for Phase III are currently being prepared.
For the manufacture of the CFB boilers for the Heshuyuan Power Plant, Dongfang Boiler Works, one of the three major subsidiaries of Dongfang Electric Corporation, performed the research and development. This involved studying jointing stress control, heat treatment and deformation control. The two boilers were manufactured without problems in July and October 2007.
Following the success of the Heshuyuan Power Plant, Dongfang Electric Corporation's 300-MW CFB boiler technology has gained wide recognition in the market, and the company has received orders for 38 of the boilers for other power plant projects such as the Pingshi Power Plant in Guangdong province and the Hong Kong Electric Company's thermal power plant in Yidu, in the Hubei province.
