The following is an advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Duke Energy North America (Houston, Texas), an affiliate of Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) (Charlotte, NC), is moving forward with the 630MW Fayette Energy Center in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The company broke ground last October on the $420 million merchant plant that will generate electricity for sale to the wholesale power market in the Northeast.
The natural-gas fired electric generation plant is located on a 300-acre site along the Monongahela River in German Township. The plant will operate in a combined-cycle configuration utilizing two GE Frame 7FA gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, and a single steam turbine generator. Underground piping and pouring of foundations for the turbines will begin this month. The steam turbine is due to arrive at the site in early summer and the gas turbines will follow in August. Commercial operation of the plant is scheduled for June of 2003.
Fayette Energy is being built by Duke Energy affiliate Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD), who is providing engineering, procurement, and construction services.
Duke Energy employs over 23,000 people worldwide and generated revenues of over $59 billion in 2001. Duke is also the largest producer of natural gas liquids (NGL), number two in gas marketing, third in power marketers, and one of the top ten power generators in the United States.
