PIPELINES

Supreme Court Rejects Enbridge Venue-Change Request - The U.S. Supreme Court rejected pipeline operator Enbridge's request to change venues regarding litigation affecting its Line 5 crude oil pipeline in Michigan, on which the state has attempted to stop operations, due in particular to a stretch of pipe running through the Straits of Mackinac in the Great Lakes. Enbridge has attempted to move litigation regarding the pipeline from Michigan state court to federal court, which is perceived as more friendly. The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that Enbridge had not requested the change in time, waiting 887 days to seek to move the lawsuit rather than the allotted 30.

According to Industrial Info Resources data, the Straits of Mackinac replacement project is valued US$500 million and would take more than one year to complete. Subscribers to the Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Pipelines Project Database can click here to view the project report.
