Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana) gave McDermott International Incorporated (NYSE:MDR) (Houston, Texas) the greenlight to begin construction on a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) power plant in Texas. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7.5 billion in active projects involving Entergy, including nearly $300 million worth that are set to begin or finish construction in the fourth quarter.

The $825 million Montgomery County Power Station (MCPS) in Willis, Texas, will be built next to the existing Lewis Creek Power Station. The new facility will generate 993 megawatts (MW) from a pair of combustion turbine generators with supplementary fired heat-recovery steam generators, and a steam turbine generator. The project currently is expected to finish construction in the fourth quarter of 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

McDermott was awarded a contract early in 2017 to perform engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the project, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas voted this July to approve Entergy's proposal to build the MCPS. "The construction of MCPS will provide customers a new source of reliable power that reduces costs and lowers emissions, while also benefitting the southeast Texas economy," said Sallie Rainer, the chief executive officer of subsidiary Entergy Texas LLC, in a press release.

McDermott already is performing EPC services on two other projects for Entergy in Louisiana: the $1 billion Saint Charles Energy Center in LaPlace and the $871 million Lake Charles NGCC project in Westlake. The NGCC plants will generate 980 and 994 MW, respectively. Each plant will comprise a pair of Mitsubishi combustion turbines, with a pair of Nooter Eriksen heat-recovery steam generators, and a Toshiba steam turbine. The Saint Charles Energy Center is being built next to the Little Gypsy Power Station. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Saint Charles and Lake Charles projects.

McDermott also is in the process of performing a major maintenance project for Entergy: the $20 million refueling outage for Unit 2 at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant in Russellville, Arkansas. The 32-day outage, which includes an Alstom pressurized water reactor, ends in mid-October. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Among Entergy's projects that are set to begin construction in the fourth quarter are key elements of the China-Stowell transmission project in Texas, which is expected to run from 26 miles from the company's substation in the town of China to its Stowell Substation in Winnie. To service the $66 million transmission line, which has a capacity of 230 kilovolts, Entergy Texas expects to perform a $14.2 million upgrade of the China Substation and a $14.2 million upgrade of the Stowell Substation. The company expects the project to be placed into service in 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the transmission line, China Substation and Stowell Substation.

Entergy Louisiana LLC is set to finish construction on two power lines in Louisiana by the end of the year: an $11 million line in Plaquemine and a $10 million line in Paulina. Each line is expected to reduce power congestion in its area. For more information, see Industrial Info's reports on the Plaquemine and Paulina projects.
