Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) has begun an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract process as part of a planned carbon capture and storage (CCS) expansion at its LaBarge natural gas facility in Wyoming, the company said last week.
Industrial Info has been tracking the expansion projects since July 2020. In all, Industrial Info is tracking 12 carbon capture-related projects by ExxonMobil, worth nearly $2 billion. The proposed $400 million LaBarge expansion would capture up to 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), the company said in a press release.
Now in the design and permitting phase, the project has issued a request for bids for EPC contracts, ExxonMobil said. A final investment decision is expected in 2022 and operations could start as early as 2025, according to the company.
The LaBarge CCS facility already captures 6 million to 7 million metric tons of CO2 each year, more than any other facility in the world, according to ExxonMobil.
