Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The startup test for the first 600-megawatt (MW) unit of China Power Investment Corporation's (CPIC) (Beijing) Yanshanhu Power Plant was completed and began trial operation on October 16, 2011. The first startup, the first connection to the grid and first load test were all completed during the startup test, and various parameters are satisfactory with the design specifications, the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing) announced on October 20.
Yanshanhu Power Plant is at Goumenzi Village in Longcheng District, in northeast China's Liaoning province. CPIC plans to build two 600-MW and four 1,000-MW coal-fired units by using the rich coal resources in its Baiyinhua Coal Mine. Two 600-MW, supercritical, air-cooling, coal-fired units will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of about $740 million. According to the schedule, the power plant will be connected to the State Grid via the 500-kilovolt (KV) Chaoyang substation in the northern part of the site.
The Phase I project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on June 24, 2009. Grounding breaking ceremony then kicked off on August 20, 2009.
Presently, the Northeast Electric Power Research Institute (Shenyang, Liaoning), a subsidiary of the State Grid Liaoning Electric Power Company Limited (Shenyang, Liaoning), is responsible for various load tests for Unit 1. The combined test of the 500-kV transmission line for Unit 2 have been completed, and the transmission line is ready to be energized. The overall startup scheme of Unit 2 has been submitted to the dispatching center. In the next stage, the load tests for both units will be performed at the same time.
Following the completion of Phase I, construction of Phase II will begin shortly. When the power plant is fully completed, it will be the largest coal-fired power plant in northeast China.
