Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first 660-megawatt (MW) unit of Jiangsu Guohua Chenjiagang Power Plant successfully passed the 168-hour, full-load, continuous trial operation and was put into commercial operation on August 30, 2011. Guohua Chenjiagang Power Plant is in Manniu Village, in the Jiangsu province. The power plant has a total planned capacity of 3,320 MW. Of this total, two 660-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units will be built in Phase I, and two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units will be built in Phase II.
The project was built and is now operated by Jiangsu Guohua Chenjiagang Power Generation Company Limited (Yancheng, Jiangsu), a joint venture of China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (SHA:601088) (Beijing) (55%) and Jiangsu Guoxin Assets Management Group Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu) (45%) in 2007. East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project, while Shanghai Electric Power Construction Corporation (Shanghai) is responsible for the construction.
Construction of the project, which included the excavation of the main powerhouse, began in April 2008. However, the project has not yet received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), so the project was ordered by the Ministry of Environmental Protection to stop construction in May this year. Due to the serious power shortage experienced in East China during the summer, construction of the project was soon resumed.
So far, the project owner is working hard to get the project approved. Following the commissioning of Phase I, the project owner is also preparing to begin the pre-stage preparation for Phase II expansion.
