First Chinese-Developed Supercritical Coal-Fired Boilers Completed in Henan Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The first Chinese-developed supercritical coal-fired boilers went online at the end of April at the Yahekou power plant in Nanyang City of central China's Henan Province. The project, with two 600-megawatt (MW) units, took a total investment of about $613 million. The boilers were developed, designed and manufactured by Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, China).

The Yahekou power plant expansion project is listed as a key project in the 11th five-year plan (2006-10) for Henan Province. Nanyang Tianyi Power Generation Company Limited (Henan, China), a company jointly invested by Henan Investment Group Company Limited (Zhengzhou, China) (70%) and Nanyang Yongsheng Investment Company Limited (Henan, China), built the project and is its operator. Another unit, Unit 3, also successfully passed a 168-hour trial operation in December 2007, 99 days ahead of schedule. The project's annual power output has the potential to reach 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours with an annual production value of about $285 million.
