Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The first Chinese-made, 1,200-megawatt (MW) ultra-supercritical coal-fired power unit was completed and put into operation on October 14, 2007, in northeastern China's Liaoning Province. The unit, which passed its 168-hour full-load trial operation smoothly, is the second part of Huaneng Yingkou power plant's Phase II project.

The project comprises two 600-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units with features for energy conservation and environment protection. The unit's designed coal consumption is 292 grams per kilowatt-hour, which is 70 grams lower than the national average. The first unit of the plant's Phase II project went into operation on August 31, 2007.

Unit 1 went into operation on June 30, 2007. Huaihu Coal Power Company Limited (Anhui, China) built and operates Anhui Tianji power plant's Phase I project. Huaihu Coal Power is a large integrated coal and power enterprise jointly invested by Huainan Coal Mining Group (Anhui) and Shanghai Electric Power Company Limited (Shanghai). The Tianji power plant is the first project in China's plans to transmit power from Anhui to eastern China. The associated Dingji coal mine, which has an annual production capacity of 6 million metric tons, is also an important composition in the Huainan energy base.
