Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of the Huaneng Nantong Power Plant's 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project in China began commercial operations January 10, after it passed a 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation, according to the project designer.
East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing) and the project designer, made the announcement on January 13.
Located on the bank of the Yangtze River in Tianshenggang Town of Nantong City, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, the Huaneng Nantong Power Plant was built in 1990 with four 350-MW coal-fired units.
The expansion project is comprised of two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units furnished with devices for high-efficiency dust removal, flue-gas desulfurization, nitrogen-oxide control and online continuous monitoring. Upon completion, the total installed capacity of the power plant will be expanded to 3,400 MW, which will meet the power demand in Nantong city and play an important role in the Jiangsu Grid.
The expansion project is a joint 50:50 investment of Huaneng Power International Limited (SHA:600011) (Beijing) and Nantong Tianshenggang Power Generation Company Limited (Nantong, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation (Beijing).
The project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on September 29, 2011. Construction began in November 2011.
Unit 2 of the project also completed the pipeline flushing in the beginning of January 2014. According to the schedule, the project will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2014.
