Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). FPL Energy has completed commercial startup of the first power block at the Forney Generating station. The plant is a 1,789-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired, combined-cycle merchant facility located in Kaufman County, Forney, Texas, about twenty miles east of Dallas.
The Forney Generating station consists of two power blocks each with three 170-megawatt General Electric Frame 7FA combustion turbine generators with Mee Industries fogging systems for Inlet Cooling, paired three Aalborg heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), plus one 384.5-megawatt Toshiba condensing steam turbine generator. The second power block is scheduled to come on line in Mid-July.
The plant will be operated by FPL Energy Forney Limited Partnership (FPLE Forney LP), an affiliate of FPL Energy, a leading private energy producer of clean energy, who is a subsidiary of FPL Group (NYSE: FPL) (Juno Beach, Florida), one of the nation's largest electric utilities. The original developer of the plant is Cobisa Corporation (Houston, Texas), who sold the project to FPL and will have a five percent ownership of the facility.
