France Awards 948 MW Solar Projects

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The French Ministry of Solidarity and Ecological Transition (Paris) has awarded 948 megawatts (MW) of ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in its sixth Programmation Pluriannuelle de l'Énergie (PPE2) tender, held in November 2024. The allocation surpassed the initial target of 925 MW, which has been now distributed across 120 projects nationwide with the largest share of 333 MW in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of France.

Neoen (Paris) emerged as the top winner, securing 166.7 MW (18% of total capacity), followed by Urbasolar group, a subsidiary of Axpo Group (Baden, Switzerland) with 124.1 MW, and TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) (Courbevoie, France) with 68.7 MW. The average tariff for this round was €79.28/MWh (~US$83.30/MWh), marking a 3% reduction from the previous tender. Projects are expected to be commissioned within 30 months.

The consistent reduction in solar costs and oversubscription highlight the sector's growing efficiency and appeal. With another round scheduled for this month, France continues to expand its solar energy footprint, bolstering its trajectory toward achieving energy transition goals.
