Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Galvani Industria Comercio e Servicos Limitada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is advancing the Santa Quiteria Phosphate-Uranium Mine project, which is being developed through a partnership with Brazilian state-owned company Industrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB) (Rio de Janeiro). The mine will be located in northern Brazil, about 200 kilometers west of the city of Fortaleza, Ceara's state capital.
The project entails an integrated mining operation, with the construction of an open-pit phosphate-uranium mine and beneficiation plants to produce 370,000 tons per year of phosphate in concentrate and 1,600 tons per year of uranium in concentrate, as well as other facilities to produce 240,000 ton per year of phosphoric acid and 370,000 of sulfuric acid. Galvani will be responsible for separating the uranium ore from the phosphate rock and giving it to INB, which will be responsible for the uranium concentrate production. The uranium beneficiation plant is estimated to cost about $35 million to engineer, equip and construct, and the whole project will total about $377 million. Basic engineering is expected to start by the beginning of next year, with project completion set by the end of 2012.
Currently, Galvani is also developing another $100 million phosphate mine in Brazil, located in Serra do Salitre, Minas Gerais State. This open-pit mine and beneficiation plant is expected to produce 500,000 tons per year of phosphate in concentrate to supply the company's Paulinia Fertilizer Industrial Complex. Sackett do Brasil Limitada (Araxa, Minas Gerais) is in charge of the basic engineering, with project completion planned for the fourth quarter of 2011.
Galvani Group is a Brazilian integrated producer of phosphate fertilizers, with three phosphate mining units and four fertilizer industrial complexes in Brazil. INB has the monopoly on uranium mining rights in the country and has selected Galvani as the private partner for the Santa Quiteria project, which is considered the largest undeveloped uranium deposit in Brazil, with reserves of 80,000 tons of uranium and 9 million tons of phosphate.
