GE Plastics Nears Completion of ULTEM Expansion in Indiana
This is the fourth expansion or debottleneck of ULTEM that Industrialinfo.com has reported at the Mount Vernon site since 1990
Released Monday, August 12, 2002
Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). GE Plastics, a division of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), is nearing completion of an approximately $45 million expansion of ULTEM at their plant site in Mount Vernon, Indiana. This expansion is expected to nearly double the site's production of Polyetherimide resins (ULTEM) when completed in November of this year. Industrialinfo.com first reported the expansion in October of 2000 and construction began in the summer of 2001.
The possibility for another expansion of ULTEM at this same site next year is very likely. ULTEM is a thermoplastic material that offers resistance to a broad range of chemicals and an exceptional high heat resistance quality.
"This is the fourth expansion or debottleneck of ULTEM that Industrialinfo.com has reported at the Mount Vernon site since 1990," commented Trey Hamblet, Chemical Group Manager with Industrialinfo.com. "Industrialinfo.com has tracked a total of twenty-six (26) planned capital and maintenance projects at this GE site since 1989 totaling over $400 million in total spending."
