Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Genencor (Wuxi) Bio-Products Company, Limited, Genencor's first manufacturing base in China, started operation on April 20 in the Wuxi New High-Tech Industrial Park.
The 20,000 square meter facility with an investment of $25.9 million is dedicated to the development and production of new enzymes as well as new bio-products. Its annual production capacity stands at over 80 new product varieties with a fermentation scale of 400 cubic meters.
This Wuxi base will make good use of Genencor's proprietary fermentation bio-technology to produce a wide range of enzyme products catering to markets including grain, food processing, industrial specialties, cleaning and textiles. The new plant has been certified by ISO 9001, Food Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Kosher and Halal, and it has its own waste water treatment plant, warehouse, applications lab, canteen and office building.
With this new facility in Wuxi, Genencor will be able to deliver even better support to customers in this region in terms of products, services and technologies, according to Tjerk de Ruiter, CEO of Genencor.
Genencor (Wuxi) Bio-Products Company, Limited was previously a joint venture owned by Genencor and Wuxi Enzyme Factory. Two years ago, in face of the robust growth in the enzyme market in China and the Asia Pacific Region at large, Genencor purchased the remaining approximate 15% interest in Genencor (Wuxi) Bio-Products from its joint venture partner and intended to reconstruct this facility. After reviewing site and financing options in several other regions, Genencor decided to relocate to the Wuxi Hi-Tech Industrial Park given the parks many advantages including greater flexibility and responsiveness to supply the market needs in this region.
At present Genencor maintains sales and marketing offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou in addition to its operations in Wuxi. Besides, Genencor also has a technology center right now under construction in Shanghai which will be put into operation in the second half of this year with an aim to enhance innovation ability and technological services.
Genencor, a subsidiary of Danisco, is developing innovative enzymes and bio-products to improve the performance and reduce the environmental impact of the cleaning, textiles, fuels and chemicals industries.
