Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GE Oil and Gas (Florence, Italy), a division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) won a bid to supply pipeline compression equipment to China's west-to-east gas-transmission project. The total value of this contract exceeds $100 million.
GE Oil and Gas will provide seven compressor units driven by gas turbines to the Phase I construction of Line 2 of the project, including 30-megawatt PGT25 gas turbines and PCL 800 mode pipeline compressors.
The construction of these compressor units will take place in GE's plants in Florence, Italy, and Ohio. The units are scheduled to begin operation by the end of 2009 and will be installed at the two newly built pressure-raising stations located in the Xinjiang and Gansu provinces in northwest China.
GE redesigned the compressor units in order to reduce the installation time and simplify the trial procedures. The redesigned centrifugal compressor will use less fuel. GE will also provide installation, maintenance services and spare parts. The energy and airline divisions of GE will provide the gas turbines.
Line 2 of China's west-to-east gas transmission project is the first pipeline that has transported gases from outside of China into China, moving gases from Turkmenistan into south China in order to meet demand in China's Shanghai and Guangdong provinces.
This is the second time that GE has been selected as the equipment provider of China's west-east gas transmission project. In 2005, the company was also selected as the equipment supplier for Line 1 of the project. GE Oil and Gas has also provided compressor equipment to another Chinese gas transmission project that transports gases in southwest China's Sichuan province to east China.
