Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Gezhouba Group No.1 Engineering Company Limited (Yichang, Hubei), the civil contractor for the 2,600-megawatt (MW) Dagangshan hydropower station, successfully completed the pit excavation for the dam in mid-June, ahead of schedule. This marks that the main works are ready to kick off, including pouring concrete for the dam, China Gezhouba Group (SHA:600068) (Yichang, Hubei) announced on June 28, 2011.
The Dagangshan hydropower station, which is located in Shimian County of Yaan City, is the 14th project in the 22-cascade development scheme proposed for the mainstream of the Dadu River, a main tributary of the Yangtze River in southwest China's Sichuan province. The power station is mainly comprised of a 210-meter-high double curvature concrete dam, a spillway, an underground powerhouse and the associated switchyard. The powerhouse will be furnished with four 650-MW Francis hydraulic turbine generating units.
Dadu Hydropower Development Company Limited (DHDC) (Chengdu, Sichuan), a subsidiary of GD Power Development Company Limited (SHA:600068) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Guodian Corporation, is responsible for the construction and future operation of the project.
Pre-stage preparation for the project kicked off in 2005. In November 2010, the project received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The pit excavation of the dam began, following the completion of the excavation of both abutments in April this year.
Presently, the project office of China Gezhouba Group is cleaning the rock surface in the pit. Once the foundation cleaning is completed, concrete placement for the dam will begin. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operations in 2015, and the entire project will be completed in 2016.
